Choosing the Right Hallway Rug
A hallway rug shouldn’t be too thick or too narrow. Should it be rectangular or round? Here are a few key tips to help you find the perfect rug for your entryway:
1. Don’t choose a rug that’s too narrow
Always select a rug that fits the space. Leave about 10–15 cm of visible floor between the rug and the walls. If your entryway is more like an open foyer rather than a narrow corridor, a round rug can work beautifully.
2. Choose a durable material
Hallway rugs must withstand heavy use and resist dirt. Natural materials like sisal and jute are excellent for their strength and texture. Synthetic fibers such as polyamide or polypropylene are also durable and easy to maintain.
3. Make sure the rug is the right thickness
Check that your doors open freely over the rug. A rug that’s too thick can block the door from opening properly.
4. Consider underfloor heating

5. Ensure the rug stays in place
Because the hallway is the most used area in your home, the rug should stay firmly in place. Many hallway rugs come with a non-slip rubber backing. If yours doesn’t, use an anti-slip underlay or place furniture, such as a console table, partially on top of the rug to keep it secure.
